Green Isle of Wight CIC has launched Vectis Energy, a new community energy company created to deliver locally owned, low-carbon energy projects for the Isle of Wight.
The project was officially introduced at a launch event on 14 January at Wildheart Animal Sanctuary, where local businesses, community organisations and potential investors came together to hear about the vision for community-owned energy on the Island.
A New Community Energy Company
Vectis Energy has been created by Green Isle of Wight CIC to develop and deliver practical, community-led energy projects that help reduce carbon emissions and lower energy costs for Islanders.
The company is led by the same team behind Green Isle of Wight CIC, ensuring that local accountability and community benefit remain central to its work.

Power Together – A Virtual Power Plant for the Isle of Wight
The first major project being developed by Vectis Energy is Power Together, the Isle of Wight’s first community-owned Virtual Power Plant (VPP).
Power Together will involve installing smart battery systems in homes, schools and small businesses across the Island. These batteries will store electricity when supply is high or prices are low and release it when demand increases, helping to create a more flexible and resilient local energy system.
Participating households and organisations are expected to see annual savings of between £50 and £300 on their energy bills, while the project is also expected to help reduce up to 700 tonnes of carbon emissions each year.
Community Benefit and Inclusion
A core aim of the Power Together project is to make the benefits of clean energy accessible to as many people as possible.
Vectis Energy is exploring options to make battery systems affordable, including routes for reduced-cost or fully funded installations for lower-income households. This approach reflects Green Isle of Wight CIC’s commitment to fairness and inclusion in the transition to low-carbon energy.
Why This Matters for the Isle of Wight
Community energy is about more than technology — it is about local ownership and keeping value within the Island.
By developing and operating energy assets locally, projects like Power Together help ensure that financial, social and environmental benefits are retained within the community, rather than leaving the Island.
The launch event also demonstrated strong interest from local businesses and potential investors in supporting community-led energy solutions that deliver both social and environmental impact.
